The National Sanskrit University (NSU) on Tuesday (February 17, 2026) announced the formation of ‘Yogi Vemana Yoga Parishat’ to promote the cause of yoga among students.
Addressing the valedictory session of ‘Yoga Sangama 2026’, the Prayogika Yoga competitions of all India Sanskrit Universities, here on Tuesday, Vice-Chancellor GSR Krishnamurthy said that the new Parishat will not only celebrate the birth anniversary of renowned Telugu philosopher and poet Yogi Veman, but also organize national level yoga competitions on January 20.
Encouraged by the impressive response from as many as fourteen Sanskrit universities across India, Prof. Krishnamurthy announced that he would hold this event every year.
Dubbing yoga as a stress buster for students and the general public to beat the pressures of the modern world, he lamented that the present generation is yet to tap the full potential of yoga as a science and reap its benefits.
Prof. Prahlad R. Joshi, Kumar Bhaskar Varma Vice-Chancellor of Sanskrit and Ancient Studies based at Nalbari (Assam) and Nandi Ghosh, Darshana Professor at Central Sanskrit University (Puri Campus) attended the event as special guests.
The “Yoga Vyjayanthi” winner’s trophy was won by a team from Kavikulaguru Kalidas Sanskrit University, Ramtek, Nagpur (Maharashtra).
The closing ceremony was attended by Deans Rajanikant Shukla (Academic), V. Vishnu Bhattacharyulu (Darshana and Saankhya) and Satyanarayana Acharya (Sahitya and Samskruti).
Student teams from Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh participated in the competition.
