
Novak Djokovic has expressed his desire to visit India in the near future, saying he feels a strong connection with fans in the country and hopes to spend time there soon.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion thanked the Indian fans for their support over the years and highlighted their presence at tournaments and around the world.
“My message is always love, respect, appreciation, especially for all the support I have personally received over the years from all Indian tennis fans and Indian sports fans around the world,” Djokovic told Times Now in a sideline interview. Laureus Sports Awards in Madrid.
He added that he has felt a ‘calling’ to visit India for a long time and wants to get to know the fans better.
“My message would also be: see you very soon in India because I need to go to India. For the last few years I have been feeling the call to come,” he said, adding that he hopes to organize an event or even play a match during the visit.
DJOKOVIC EYES INDIA VISIT
Djokovic said he hoped to make the trip in the near future, although he admitted uncertainty at this stage of his career.
“I really hope I can come to India and do an event, play a match or whatever. I really wish because I feel very close to Indians,” he said.
The Serbian great added that while the timetable for his visit to India remains uncertain, the intention to travel is firm, with the timetable likely to depend on his playing commitments.
Djokovic also looked ahead to the Olympic cycle and acknowledged the challenges at this stage of his career.
“I’m looking forward to it. I think it’s a very long way for me at this stage of my career and life, two years, but you never know,” he said.
He added that representing Serbia at the Olympic Games remains a key goal for the future.
THE VIRAT KOHLI CONNECTION
Djokovic also spoke about his relationship with Virat Kohli, revealing that the former Indian captain played a role in his introduction to cricket.
“Yes, Virat is a friend and someone I obviously respect and admire. He’s actually, to be honest, the reason I started watching cricket,” he said.
He added that the two have stayed in touch and could share a hilarious sporting moment if his visit takes place. “When I come to India, I hope they will join and then we can play some tennis, some cricket and have fun and just spread positive, good vibes with people and celebrate the sport,” Djokovic said.
The prospect of a crossover between tennis and cricket involving two of the biggest names in world sport has already created excitement among fans. While no formal plans have been announced, Djokovic’s comments suggest that such an interaction could be part of his long-awaited visit to India.
