Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenkova have teamed up for a sensational 2026 US Open campaign

Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenkova will headline one of the most anticipated partnerships at the 2026 US Mixed Doubles Championships, with tournament organizers unveiling a star-studded entry for the revamped event. The pairing combines a 24-time Grand Slam champion and the reigning women’s world number one, making them one of the instant favorites to win the title at Flushing Meadows.

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) has once again attracted many of the sport’s biggest singles stars by maintaining the revamped mixed doubles format that was introduced last year. The competition will take place on August 25 and 26, before the start of the main singles draw, with the winning pair receiving a prize of US$1 million.

Djokovic and Sabalenka headline a glittering field with some sensational combinations. Other notable pairings include Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud, Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz, Naomi Osaka and Kei Nishikori, Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper and Alex Eala and Felix Auger-Aliassime, making for one of the strongest mixed doubles lineups in Grand Slam history. A FRIENDSHIP THAT COULD MAKE THE DECISION

While their tennis pedigree alone makes them title contenders, Djokovic and Sabalenka share a close friendship even off the court. Over the past few seasons, the pair have often been seen training together, exchanging advice and entertaining fans with their light-hearted interactions.

Sabalenka has often spoken of the respect she has for Djokovic, describing him as a player she looks up to and someone who has willingly shared his experiences to help her cope with the pressures of competing at the highest level.

Their bond has extended beyond tennis, with the pair making headlines last year after enjoying a ‘dream double date’ alongside their partners and delighting fans with playful dance routines during tournament celebrations.

That existing chemistry could be a big advantage when they step on the court together. Djokovic’s tactical brilliance, return of serve and unrivaled Grand Slam experience perfectly complement Sabalenka’s explosive power and aggressive baseline play, making them one of the most evenly matched pairings in the tournament.

After an overhaul, mixed doubles quickly became one of the biggest attractions at the US Open. Six teams will qualify directly through their combined singles rankings after entries close on 17 August, while the remaining spots will be filled through wildcards and qualifiers. Defending champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori are also expected to return.
