
On Tuesday, the Karnatak High Court ordered the publication of the State Government and another in the three pet petitions that questioned the legality of the authorities’ decision to make intelligent electricity meters for all electricity consumers and accepting the offer of a particular company to supply intelligent meters for the transfer price.
The divisional bench composed of the reigning chief judge V. Kameswar Rao and Joshi Joshi Joshi approved an order for separate petitions submitted by Karnataka Vidyuth Sen, Bengalur, Ramacandra R. Anaveri, journalist and Jayapal N. and Muniswama Gowd from Bengalur.
What did Bescom said
During the hearing of the Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company LTD (Bescom), he stated that she was mandatory only for installing new meters or for temporary connection, and not for all electricity consumers.
However, the advocate of one of the petitioners claimed that the scheme of intelligent meters was prepared to become mandatory for existing customers, upgrading their connection to a higher level or even renovate their houses and reinstall meters and other scenarios. In addition to temporary connections, the decision on the installation of electricity is contrary to the recommendations of the Electricity Regulation in Karnataka (KERC), it is said to be the name of the petitioners.
The bench also ordered the release of KERC and Rajashree Electricals PVT. Ltd., Davangere, which has been awarded a contract for intelligent meters to consumers.
Another hearing was adjourned to 19 August.
