Nothing should be given to Sonam Wangchuk without my consent, says wife Gitanjali Angmo

After the Delhi Police shifted activist Sonam Wangchuk to Safdarjung Hospital, his wife Gitanjali J Angmo on Saturday (July 18, 2026) said the activist should not be given any medical treatment without her consent.
Ms. Angmo confirmed that Mr. Wangchuk was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital.

In a post on X, Ms Angmo said: “Nothing should be given to him orally or intravenously without consent from me, his family and his doctors who have been monitoring his health for the past 20 days.”

She contested the decision to hospitalize him, saying Mr Wangchuk appeared fine on Friday (July 17, 2026).
“He was doing well yesterday. There was no need to take him to the hospital,” she added.
Safdurjung Hospital issued a statement on Saturday (July 18, 2026), adding, “He is weak due to prolonged starvation and dehydration. Although he is currently stable, he requires continuous observation, monitoring and treatment to restore his body parameters.”
The Delhi Police said Mr Wangchuk was taken to a hospital for “necessary medical treatment” on expert medical advice and in accordance with the orders of the Delhi High Court.
