Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has moved the Karnataka High Court to challenge the First Information Report (FIR) registered against him by the Bengaluru City Police on the instructions of the Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court for allegedly hurting religious sentiments by “mocking” the sacred Daiva tradition depicted in the Kannada film Kantara Chapter 1.
The actor’s petition was listed for hearing on February 24.
Complainant Prashanth Metha, a city advocate, approached the magistrate court after the city police did not act on his complaint against the actor.
During the closing ceremony of the Goa International Film Festival (IFFI)-2025 in Goa on 28 November 2025, Ranveer Singh mimicked actor Rishab Shetty’s performance in the film’s climax and called the revered daiva Chavundi from coastal Karnatakaas a “female spirit” on stage.
However, the actor took to Instagram on 1 December 2025 to apologize for his act, while clarifying that he did not mean to harm anyone but appreciated Rishab Shetty’s performance in the film.
