N. Ravikumar, BJP MLC, faces intensive criticism of civil society organizations, political leaders and public associations after its controversial notes that question whether Kalaburagi representatives of the Commissioner (DC) Fouzia Taranum was “from Pakistan” during the recent side in the city.
In a strongly formulated statement by the State Committee of Karnataka Akhil Bharatiya Janawadi Mahil Sanghatan condemned Mr. Ravikumar’s comments as “irresponsible and inflammatory”. The statement signed by the President of the Organization Meenakshi Bali, Vice President K. Neel and General Secretary of Devi called for a public apology to the leader of BJP.
“This tendency between BJP leaders to target officials on the basis of their caste and religion is deeply rooted in the ideology of the party,” the statement said. He also demanded that BJP should take disciplinary measures against Mr. Ravikumar and cultivate the culture of respect for women serving the nation. The group also remembered the previous case in which another BJP leader reportedly referred to the col. Sofiya Qureshi, a decorated military officer, as a “terrorist sister”.
In the related development, the delegation of Muslim women submitted a memorandum to the police commissioner Kalaburagagi SD Sharanappa, who demanded legal steps against Mr. Ravikumar. They described his remarks as “driven by hatred and prejudice” and urged the authorities to ensure institutional protection and public support for officers who are focused on religion.
“It is not an isolated incident. Previously, Colonel Qureshi has been similarly focused. Now she is Mrs. Taranum officer. This shows the worrying pattern of repeated humiliation of qualified, specialized Muslim women in public discourse,” Memorandum said.
Rural development and Minister Panchayat Raj Priyank Kharge sharply criticized Mr. Ravikumar’s notes in the Facebook post. Priyank described the comments as “highly undesirable and municipal” and accused the BJP of consistent calling Pakistan to accuse both civil servants and political opponents.
“It seems that BJP leaders cannot work without mentioning Pakistan; it seems that even dreams of it,” Priyank wrote.
He noted that Mrs. Taranum was the meritorious officer of the Indian administrative service, which was recently president of the Murmu President Murmu for her exemplary behavior as an election officer.
“She did not receive her contribution through political flattery or loyalty, but through a sincere public service,” he noted, drawing a pointed contrast with what he indicated that the BJP was politically motivated appointments.
Mr. Priyank further criticized Mr. Ravikumar for attempting to undermine the integrity of the older bureaucrat and stated that such notes reflect “lack of basic common sense”. He linked the incident with a wider formula of municipal polarization, which quoted the past case where BJP Vijay Shah was described by col. Qureshi for the “terrorist sister” because of her religion.
“The arrogance and municipal thinking of BJP, where officials and soldiers are spoiled on the basis of their faith, will not be tolerated. The public will respond to such bigotry,” he warned.
The Association of State Government employees also condemned Mr. Ravikumar’s remarks. In his statement issued on Tuesday, the President said the district Basvaraj Balundagi said that such irresponsible statements contribute to harassing honorary officers.
Basavaraj Ingin, State President of the Association of Turius growers, also criticized this sentiment. “Such notes are not only unacceptable, but absolutely condemnable,” he said.
Mr. Ingin spoke to the Hindu and added, “I know that Mrs. Taranum personally. She is an honorary and hardworking officer who listens carefully to people. When we approached her in terms of red grams complaints, she immediately answered and acted.”
