The ruling world champion D Gukesh and the legendary Magnus Carlsen lead the race to win in the Norwegian chess and went to the last round of the tournament. Carlsen leads the race with 15 points to his name, but Gukesh is not behind. The Indian Grand Master costs 14.5 points after defeating the Chinese Wei Yi in the ninth and penultimate round of the competition.
With victory over Wei Yi, Gukesh earned three full points to appear as one of the best candidates, along with Norwegian Carlsen. The five -time world champion Carlsen returned from the loss of the position to defeat the American grandmother Fabiana Caruan and gain full points in the 9th round of the tournament. Carlsen is marginally in front of Gukesh, with a half -point in a double robin tournament.
Gukesh will take over the American grandmother Fabian Caruan, while Carlsen will play Arjun Erigaisi in a decisive 10 round, both hope to be a point in one noble by requiring a title and $ 69,000.
If the defending champion Carlsen wins, it will be his seventh Norwegian chess title since 2016. On the other hand, Gukesh will focus on his first triumph only in his second performance at the event.
Hikaru Nakamura, currently on 13 points, still has an external chance to win the title, depending on how other games are based. In the ninth round, Arjuna defeated Erigaisi in Armageddon Tie-Fake, after he had previously directed a classic play to a draw, although both players had more than 40 minutes on hours.
Gukesh looks confidently
Gukesh looked confident and well resting after the second day of rest. Played White against the Chinese Wei Yi and forced resignation to 40. The move after earning the missed opportunities of the bishop F7.
“I just thought it was quite a nice position to play. And then (Wei Yi) missed this bishop H7, which was a bit cute,” Gukesh said. It was his third classic victory of the tournament, after earlier victories against the world issue One Carlsen and colleagues Indian Arjun Erigaisi, both came after the first rest.
“I’m happy with the game I played today. Tomorrow (Friday), hopefully another good game I can play. And any result will be, we’ll see later.
The 19 -year -old world champion faces a hard challenge in the last round against Fabiano Caruan, who led a position before Carlsen organized a comeback from a difficult position to defeat the American.
With some funny Carlsen’s reaction to his loss against Gukesh, who became viral, he said that this content believes that this content helps promote this sport.
“Yeah, I think Dad showed me one (of the funny versions of the video). I’m sure there are many more. I think it’s nice for chess. It’s not just moves. Some people attract emotions. All these memes and things really help … I’m glad I could contribute,” Gukesh said.
Carlsen, playing White, capitalized on the Caruan’s mistake on the 48th move to win a major victory, even though the American held an advantage for a large part of the game. Norwegian was surprised by some of Caruan’s decisions.
“Frankly, it seemed to me that Fabiano was not in great shape today. There were some of his decisions that I didn’t understand. From any position, I managed to gain more and more benefits. It wasn’t such an inspiring game because it seemed almost a game I won because he (Caruana) wasn’t at his best.
The five -time world champion added that victory was a timely morality before his final clash with Arjun Erigaisi.
“It is obvious that this victory is improving my situation a lot. Erigaisi will always want to fight. So I’m definitely ready to fight.”
In the female section Humpy, there was no golden opportunity to virtually secure the title. He plays with Black, the double world champion lost to the Chinese Lei Tingjie, allowing the race to be reopen.
Humpy, who led overnight, now stands in second place with 13.5 points. Ukrainian Grand Master Anna Muzychuk took a two -point lead with 15.5 after the commanding victory over Chinese world champion Ju Wenjun, who remains at 12.5 points.
