Northeast United FC maintained one chair in Singapore Asia Cup Indian football qualifications in Southeast Asia as a tribute to the singer-composer Zateen Garg, who died there last month and was known for his love for sport.
Members of the club who were in Singapore for the match on Thursday (October 9, 2025), paid tribute to this way. The tie ended with a draw 1-1.
“Forever in our hearts. The seat remained empty. A thousand hearts full! In the stands of Singapore, one chair stood – for Zateen da!” The football club representing the states of the northeast India stated in a contribution to social media.
“For the man who sang our dreams, he lived our passion and loved football as a life himself; the brigade paid tribute to the legend where he last breathed,” he added.
The jersey number 10 was placed on the chair, with a photo of Garg playing football and the headline “Football is life”.
52 -year -old singer died while swimming in the sea in Singapore 19 September.
The Highlander brigade, as the club is known, remembered how Garg said that football was his first love. “And even now, his spirit continues to play – in every singing, every rhythm of our drums, every encouragement that rises for us!” added.
He also said that from Assam’s muddy fields to the Moscow large arena “carried our soul wherever he went to a beautiful game”.
Garg, a passionate football fan, traveled to Russia to watch the FIFA World Cup and publish on social media and encourage the youth to take more home.
“Football is the game he loved the most. Zateen da, you are not gone. Now you are just playing from heaven. Forever our music. Forever our roar. Forever our Dureen Da!” Post added.
