Andhra Pradesh is likely to witness a wet spell from October 14 to 19, with the Northeast Monsoon moving over south peninsular India from October 15.

Earlier this week, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that a low pressure system is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal around October 13. However, weather experts have now pointed out that the system does not have the strength to develop into a low pressure area.

Andhra Pradesh will experience a wet spell not because of the low pressure over the Bay of Bengal, but because of the onset of the northeast monsoon and monsoon troughs, experts said.

From the cyclonic circulation over the Comorin region to the northwestern Bay of Bengal off the Orissa coast, a trough runs through the Gulf of Mannar and southwestern Bay of Bengal.

Under the influence of the weather system, Rayalaseema region is likely to receive light to moderate showers on October 15, while south and north coastal Andhra Pradesh may experience isolated light showers on Thursday.

Light to moderate showers and isolated heavy rainfall are likely over the three regions of Andhra Pradesh from October 16 to 19.

Thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds of up to 40 km/h are likely to blow across the state.

On Wednesday, there were light showers at a few stations in Rayalaseema and North Andhra region.

Between 8.30 am and 5 pm, Kalugurthipad in Tirupati district received the day’s maximum of 39.92 mm, followed by Chittamur (39.46 mm), Padmanabham in Visakhapatnam district (35.25 mm), Denkada in Vizianagaram district (29.75 mm) among others, 2SR in Allampad.

Meanwhile, conditions are becoming favorable for further withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon from the remaining parts of the country and simultaneous onset of Northeast Monsoon over the southern peninsula from October 15, 2026.
