North Korean leader Kim Jong Un Un Unw reitured his promise to unconditionally support Russian President Vladimir Putin, the state media said because the alliance with both countries concerning sanctions raises security concerns in the region.
At a meeting with the highest security assistant in Putin, Sergei Shoig, in Pyongyang, Kim said that North Korea would “unconditionally” Russia and “his foreign policies” on all crucial international political issues, “the official Korean Central press agency reported on Thursday.
Both countries have agreed to expand their relationships “to the powerful and comprehensive relationships of strategic partnership,” KCNA said.
Shoigu’s visit came when South Korea swore in the new President Lee Jae-myung, a liberal from the Democratic Party, after months of political instability. Lee, who led the campaign for re -opening a dialogue with Pyongyang, committed himself in his winning speech to “stabilize the situation on the Korean Peninsula as quickly as possible” to reduce the geopolitical risk.
It remains unclear whether Kim will respond to Lee’s overture. The North Korean leader is increasingly sending troops in accordance with Moscow to help the Russian war with Ukraine and draw attention to the military experience gained by his forces in modern combat theaters.
Kim has more and more interrupted ties with South Korea and leaves the concept of peacekeeping. Last year, North Korea destroyed parts of its own infrastructure, when it was once used to connect the north and south of the peninsula and underlined the deepening.
Washington and Soul claim that Moscow helps Pyongyang to avoid UN sanctions and deliver them to military hardware. The joint report of 11 countries, including the US and Japan, quoted “Advanced Electronic Warfare Systems, including a Russian equipment using a Russian cargo aircraft”.
Shoigu’s visit refers to his second North Korea trip in less than three months after his March visit, during which Kim reported on US negotiations about the end of the war in Ukraine.
