In a statement on Friday, the Civil Aviation Ministry said that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted an airport license to YIAPL for the Noida International Airport (NIA) at Jewar in Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh.
The airport is being built in four phases along with a multimodal cargo hub.
“In the first phase, with one runway and one terminal, the airport will have the capacity to handle approximately 12 million passengers per year. Once all phases are completed, the airport will be able to handle up to 70 million passengers per year,” the report said.
Shailendra Bhatia, Nodal Officer of Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL), confirmed that the airport license has been issued as per civil aviation regulations for domestic flights and cargo operations. He added that the remaining operational and deployment works at the airport are expected to be completed in the next 45 days and that the airport infrastructure is now fully ready, PTI reported.

Officials said the airport will be formally inaugurated by Narendra Modi in the future.
The greenfield airport, being developed under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model at Jewar, Gautam Buddh Nagar, is expected to become one of the largest airports in India once it becomes fully operational.
The first phase of the 1,300-hectare project with one runway and one terminal building is designed to handle 1.2 million passengers annually. Passenger service was originally scheduled to begin in September 2024.
According to a statement issued by the airport, the license issued under Rule 78 of the Aviation Rules, 1937 certifies that the airport complies with all regulatory requirements regarding operational procedures, security systems, infrastructure, navigational aids and emergency response as mandated by DGCA Civil Aviation requirements, PTI reported.

“This development follows the recent approval by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (BCAS), which has granted final safety clearance for domestic passenger transport as well as domestic and international cargo operations. Together, these regulatory approvals represent significant progress in the airport’s readiness to commence operations,” it said.
She said the airport’s airport security program (ASP) is currently under review by BCAS.
Preparations are continuing under the airport’s Operational Readiness Activation and Transition (ORAT) program to ensure that systems, processes and personnel are fully prepared for a safe and smooth launch, he added.
While the airport license confirms that the airport’s NIA infrastructure, air traffic processes and security system compliance, the commencement of commercial operations will be completed after the airport’s security program is approved by BCAS, the airport said.
“We look forward to receiving this approval in due course, after which the flight schedules, ticket sales and formal inauguration will be announced just before the start of operations,” he added.
