The Noida International Airport witnessed the landing of its first foreign aircraft as three Russian airliners landed on Tuesday amid the arrival of foreign leaders and their delegations to India ahead of the 18th BRICS summit scheduled for the weekend, reports ANI.
The plane arrived ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s expected visit to New Delhi for a summit. Putin is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bilateral talks on Friday, a day before the start of the multilateral meeting.
“Trade and economic cooperation has a very broad scope”: Kremlin spokesman
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov had earlier confirmed that Prime Minister Modi and Putin are expected to hold a bilateral meeting on September 11. The talks are likely to cover bilateral relations, including trade and economic cooperation.
“We look forward to the president and prime minister having another bilateral meeting during the visit. It is planned. It is scheduled for Friday, so first, as always, they will touch on the bilateral agenda. Trade and economic cooperation is very broad,” Peskov said during a virtual briefing from Moscow to journalists.
Peskov mentioned that Putin’s visit will provide an opportunity for India and Russia to reassess their bilateral relations, while expressing his wish for India to successfully host the BRICS summit.
“In a few days, President Putin will begin his visit to India. You know that our two leaders, the Indian and Russian leaders, are in very close personal contact. They are very pragmatic in their relations and are so honest that they can discuss the most sensitive issues of our agenda and our bilateral relations in a very open and constructive way. Of course, this opens up new horizons for our cooperation,” he added.
Expressing confidence that the summit will be a success, Peskov said Russia seeks to strengthen cooperation among BRICS members in its three key areas: politics and security, economic and financial cooperation, and cultural and humanitarian exchanges. He further stated that Russia supports the inclusion of new countries in various BRICS formats.
“We have no doubt that the summit will be successful. Russia, we are doing everything to contribute to the further development of BRICS cooperation in the three main pillars of our interaction. So these are politics and security, economy and finance, and the cultural and humanitarian context. So we support the idea of inviting new countries to join various formats within BRICS,” he said.
India will host the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12-13, 2026 under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”.
