Russia on Thursday (October 2) rejected the idea of a new Cold War with the West, instead described the current tension as a “fiery” conflict. Russian officials accused the European Union and NATO of spreading false claims for alleged sabotage operations to justify their military expenses.
“No cold, there’s a fire”
The Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharová told reporters: “I disagree with comparison with the Cold War. We are already in a different form of conflict. There was no longer a cold; there is a fire.”
Zakharov’s notes have come in the middle of the war in Ukraine, the deadliest Europe since World War II, leading to the greatest confrontation between Russia and the West of the Cuban missile crisis in 1962.
Accusations of sabotage
When she asked the European accusations that Russia had intervened in the airspace of NATO, he performed sabotage operations and hacking critical installations, Zakhar’s claims rejected as unfounded. She said, “All their statements indicate – first they prepare a chain of provocations. Secondly, they must justify their military budgets.”
Escalation of tension with the west
Less than two months after the Alaska summit between US President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin, peace seems to be more and more distant. Russian forces continue to advance to Ukraine, and the Western nations have caused concerns about Russian drones allegedly flying in the airspace of NATO. Meanwhile, Washington discussed the possibility of deeper engagement in Ukraine.
Contrasting perspective
Western leaders, including former US President Joe Biden and European counterparts, depict the Ukrainian war as an attempt by Russia in the imperial style to entertain the territory. Moscow, on the other hand, frames conflict as a turning point in its relations with the West and after the fall of the Soviet Union of 1991 quotes NATO expansion as an interference with the traditional Russian sphere of influence, including Ukraine and Georgia.
