The Pantheerankavu police arrested a 44-year-old Bangladeshi national who was allegedly staying in Kerala without valid documents.

The arrested man has been identified as Mohammed Moniruzzaman, a native of Kushtia district in Bangladesh, police said.

The search was conducted based on a tip-off that a Bangladeshi national with a fake identity was living in Mundupalam near Perumanna in Kozhikode. Pantheerankavu Police Station Sub-Inspector PK Vinod led the operation.

Police said Moniruzzaman had been staying in Mundupalam for almost four months as a tree cutter.

During interrogation, he is said to have told the police that he had crossed the river from Bangladesh to West Bengal by train before traveling to Kozhikode. Police also said he was in Kerala on a valid visa almost eight years ago.

Assistant sub-inspector Pantheerankavu Sunilkumar, civil police officer Dhanish and members of the counter-terrorism squad were part of the investigation team.
