As Bihar is set to vote in the first phase of assembly elections on Thursday (November 6, 2025), Congress MP Pramod Tiwari on Wednesday said it would be “no surprise” if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the alliance failed to secure even 100 seats in the polls, attributing it to the “incompetence of the coalition and the campaign” of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Speaking to ANI, a Congress MP said, “This time Nitish Kumar’s inability to work, his inability to travel and the way BJP has ignored him will lead to a reduction in BJP’s seats. JDU’s number of seats will also be reduced. Overall, I can say that NDA will get significantly less seats and this will directly benefit Gwiandhi Yadavejhu’s alliance.”
“He (Union Home Minister Amit Shah) is giving the number 160 to save his sinking ship. In fact, I am saying this with absolute confidence that nobody should be surprised if the BJP and the alliance do not even reach triple digits,” Tiwari added.
Meanwhile, Defense Minister and senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh has said that the ruling NDA will reconstitute the government in Bihar with a two-thirds majority.
Talking to reporters in Patna, Rajnath Singh said, “It is clear that the NDA will form the government here with a two-thirds majority. The people of Bihar have made up their minds and decided because of how Nitish Kumar has accelerated development here in the last twenty years. If anyone can improve the reputation of Bihar, but also the international reputation not only of all India.”
Voting for the first phase of Bihar Assembly elections in 121 constituencies will be held on November 6 (Thursday). The remaining 122 constituencies will vote in the second phase on November 11.
The key contest in the 2025 Bihar elections is between the National Democratic Alliance and the Mahagathbandhan.
The NDA includes Bharatiya Janata Party, Janata Dal (United), Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal-led Mahagathbandhan includes the Congress Party, Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (CPI-ML) led by Deepankar Bhattacharya, Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) and Mukesh Sahani’s Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIPSAan).
Besides, Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj has also staked all the 243 seats of the state.
