‘No such discussion’: BCCI denies reports of India-Sri Lanka ODI shifting from Delhi to Ahmedabad

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia (ANI Photo) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has dismissed reports suggesting that the opening ODI between India and Sri Lanka, scheduled to be played in Delhi on December 13, has been shifted to Ahmedabad due to concerns over ongoing construction work at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia clarified that the match remains reserved for the national capital, ending speculation of a possible venue change.

Why are there reports of a change of venue?

Speculation about the start of the ODIs came amid reports of ongoing construction work at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, raising questions about the venue’s readiness to host an international match. Reports suggested that Ahmedabad could replace Delhi as the host for the December 13 match.Saikia said on Monday that no decision has been taken to move the match and reiterated that bilateral matches are allocated seats as per the board’s standard policy.“Reports suggesting that the India-Sri Lanka ODI match scheduled in Delhi may be shifted to Ahmedabad are not accurate. BCCI has not taken such a decision,” Saikia said.“Furthermore, it needs to be reiterated that bilateral matches are primarily allocated as per standard policy,” he added.Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium is already scheduled to host the third and final ODI on December 19.

Do you think BCCI should revise its policy for hosting international matches?
