In a significant result for Muslim women seeking permission to pray in mosques, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) admitted before the Supreme Court of India that there is no restriction in Islam on women entering mosques to offer namaz.
Appearing for the board, senior advocate MR Shamshad made the submission before a nine-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, which was hearing the Sabarimala reference case, with related petitions on entry of women in mosques being tagged to the case as it also involves constitutional questions with regard to Articles 25 and 26.
