Amid growing concern over reports of a proposed railway line through the eco-sensitive district of Kodagu, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, Mysuru-Kodagu MP, has clarified that no such proposal is currently under the Ministry of Railways.
The clarification follows Mr. Wadiyar’s meeting with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi, during which a number of rail infrastructure and connectivity issues related to the Mysuru-Kodagu parliamentary constituency were discussed.
In a statement issued after the meeting, the MP said that recent reports and public discussions about a possible rail route through Kodagu had raised concerns among residents and environmental stakeholders. However, according to him, the Minister of Railways confirmed that the Ministry is not currently considering any proposal for a railway line passing through the district.
Mr. Wadiyar emphasized that any future infrastructure project affecting the region will only be undertaken after consultation with all stakeholders. Environmental issues, local conditions and the district’s development interests will be carefully considered before any decision is made, he said.
Reiterating his commitment to the balanced development of Kodagu, the MP said efforts to improve connectivity and infrastructure would go hand in hand with preserving the district’s fragile ecosystem and rich cultural heritage.
He also assured the residents that he would remain in constant touch with the Ministry of Railways on issues related to the region’s development and connectivity needs.
Appealing to the public not to be swayed by speculation, Mr. Wadiyar said any official development on the matter would be communicated transparently through appropriate channels.
