In the middle of the ongoing tariff tension with the US and the recent relaxation of India’s relations in China, Rajnath Singh said on Sunday that in global geopolitics: “There are no permanent friends or enemies, only permanent interests.”
Relationships between the new Delhi and Washington are on a decline after US President Donald Trump doubled the tariffs to Indian goods to an incredible 50 percent, including 25 % additional duty for Indian purchase of Russian oil.

Rajnath Singh spoke at the NDTV Summit Summit 2025, where he noticed the obligation of the Indian “Aatmanirbharty” or the self -confidence in defense. He stressed that the Indian defense infrastructure must not rely on unpredictable “foreign interventions” and instead should be built on the nation’s own abilities, as stated by PTI.

The government also stressed that in the next decade it will introduce the proposed air defense system Sudarshan Chakra to provide comprehensive air security for all critical installations across the country.
Singh said that the government plans to provide complete air security to all important installations across the country within the proposed air defense system Sudarshan in the next 10 years.

“As we saw during the Sindoor operation, the importance of air defense capacity in today’s wars has increased to a large extent. In such a scenario, the Sudarshan Chakra mission will certainly show up as a game converter,” he said.
Singh said that the changing geopolitics also explained that external dependence in the field of defense is no longer a possibility. “In the current situation, self -confidence is necessary for both our economy and our security,” he said.
In his speech Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ambitious project of air defense. The announcement came days after the main field marshal of the Pakistani army ASIM Munir reportedly indicated the focus on Indian assets along the border in the case of the future military confrontation between the two countries.
Indian mission Sudarshan Chakra
At the beginning of August 26, the head of the General Chauhan Defense Defense said that the Indian proposed air defense system – Sudarshan Chakra – will include a colossal amount of integration of sensors, missiles, supervisory apparatus, and artificial intelligence instruments.

The project is scheduled to complete by 2035.
