The global situation is “serious and tense”, the prime minister said Narendra Modispoke after meeting with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker as both leaders argued that the current conflicts in Ukraine and Western Asia could not be solved militarily. The two countries announced a series of agreements of intent after the meeting, saying they hoped to cooperate on military matters and terrorism, while also starting a dialogue on cyber security.
Mr Stocker’s visit, his first to Asia, comes two years after Mr Modi visited Vienna and met then chancellor Karl Nehammer, who lost the election. Additionally, officials said the two leaders are committed to building on the India-EU Free Trade Agreement and Strategic Partnership announced in January 2026.
