No men’s weightlifter for India at the Asian Games as ruled out by Rishikanta Singh
Commonwealth silver medalist Rishikanta Singh, the only weightlifter in the Asian Games squad, has been ruled out of the continental competition with a knee injury.
The Manipuri athlete, who competes in the 60kg category, suffered a knee injury a week before the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in July, where he won a silver medal.
“We were hoping that he would recover before the Asian Games, but it didn’t happen. He was examined, after which he was advised to undergo rehabilitation for a month,” a source in the Weightlifting Federation of India told PTI.
India’s weightlifting team for the Asian Games now comprises four women weightlifters – Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Mirabai Chanu (49kg), Gyaneshwari Yadav (53kg), Nirupama Devi (61kg) and Harjinder Kaur (69kg).
