Millions of people from across the United States are expected to march in No Kings protests against the administration of US President Donald Trump on Saturday, October 18. The goal of the protesters is to send a message that there is no place for authoritarianism in the United States, thereby signaling their disapproval of the Trump administration’s recent policies.
The No Kings demonstrations this Saturday are the second wave of a movement that took to the streets in June and marked “one of the biggest days of protest” in US history, according to The Guardian. Demonstrations are planned at more than 2,700 locations in all 50 states, covering cities large and small.
Politicians such as Chuck Schumer, Chris Murphy and Bernie Sanders are expected to attend the protests. Lisa Gilbert, co-chair of Public Citizen and one of the organizers of the protests, said the key message for people to “carry” is that Trump wants them to be afraid, but protesters refuse to be bullied into “fear and silence.” She added that it was important for people to speak their mind and not be “intimidated by that fear”.
