On Wednesday, the Supreme Court awarded the anticipation of the former probation of IAS Puja Khedkař, who faces charges of cheating fraudulently claiming exclusive benefits within other backward classes (OVC) and persons with benchmark disabilities (PWBD) in 2022 in case of civil service.
What did the Supreme Court at Puja Khedkar?
The Supreme Court bench, consisting of BV Nagarathn and Satish Chandra Sharma, ordered Khedkara to cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
The Supreme Court noted that alleged crimes were not of serious nature, such as murder or terrorism, stressed that the investigation should be immediately completed.
“What is a serious crime she has committed? She’s not a drug master or a terrorist. She has not accepted 302 (murder). She is not an NDPS perpetrator. You should have a system or software. You have finished the investigation. She lost everything and gets a job anywhere,” said Lavička.
“Given the fact and circumstances of the case, this is a suitable case where the High Court in Delhi was to grant the petitioner bail,” said the bench.
He noted that Puja Khedkar had already suffered significant consequences, including release from the Indian administrative service and the abolition of her UPSC candidacy and that it would be difficult to provide employment elsewhere.
Puja Khedkar questioned the rejection of the High Court in Delhi to grant her predictive bail, which quoted Prima facie case of fraud and a potential impact on the investigation if the deposit was granted.
The Delhi High Court described this case as a serious example of manipulation against the constitutional body and society in general.
Accusations against the puja khedkar
The accusation against Puja Khedkar includes the submission of multiple fake UPSC certificates, the use of different names and identities to exceed the permissible number of attempts to test and distort the status of its disability.
The UPSC filed a criminal complaint and banned it from future examinations, while the police in Delhi filed companies and were investigating perhaps a wider conspiracy involving false documents in the civil service process.
Despite the opposition of the Police in Delhi, which argued that Puja Khedkar would not cooperate and that the accusation was serious, the Supreme Court ruled that the interrogation in custody was unnecessary and awarded the bail on condition, including cooperation with the probe and did not seem evidence or witnesses
