Mayor M. Anbazhagan said on Tuesday that there was no change in the decision of Tiruchi Corporation on Outsourcing and Maintenance of the Integrated Bus terminal (IBT) built to estimate Crore 492 in Panjapur on the Tiruchi-Madurai motorway.
Anbazhagan, who responded to the requirements of several councilors who raised objections to the corporation’s decision at his council meeting, said the new bus terminal, which was built by modern equipment, was one of the largest bus stalls in the country. This required a reserved team to maintain. It was therefore decided to involve private companies to ensure the operation and maintenance of the new bus terminal.
K. Suresh (CPI), councilor representing the department No. 23, which raised this problem, said the company built a number of shops and restaurants on the bus terminal. It should directly control civic infrastructure generating income. It would bring more income for the civic body. Similarly, the corporation should take care of the maintenance of the bus terminal by employing its own civic workers. It would also open trips to employ new workers.
Mr. Anbazhagan said the arrangement was on a pilot basis. The intention was to keep the bus terminal clean and clean. The provisions on liability with the supplier would ensure the neatness of all facilities and equipment of passengers. No worry was needed.
S. Suresh (CPI-M) said privatization is not a good idea. Should not be promoted in any way.
Traders concerned
Ambikapathy (AIADMK), representing the department No. 65, said Gandhi marketwan traders are involved in the transition to the new integrated vegetable market that was to be built in Panjapur. They arrested that their livelihood would be affected if they were forced to switch to the new market.
Mr. Anbazhagan said there was no need for any concerns, because the Minister of the City Administration of KN did not clarify that Gandhi market traders would not be shifted.
Mr. Anbikapathy said Tiruchi Corporation’s move to increase rental trades on the Gandhi market would hit traders. There was a step to repair rent for space used by merchants in front of their shops. He should be withdrawn.
Previously, the mayor informed the Council that the state government issued an order for the name of the integrated bus terminal and a truck terminal, which was to be opened to the public by the main Minister of MK Stalin 9.
