The Union Government has clarified that no central funds have been sanctioned or released for the development or conservation of the Kittur Rani Channamma fort in Belagavi district.
Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat recently said in the Rajya Sabha that the Kittur Fort does not come under the jurisdiction of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Instead, it is a state protected monument under the Government of Karnataka. However, conservation of centrally protected monuments elsewhere in Belagavi is continuing as per national guidelines, the minister said. He was answering a question from MP Iranna Kadadiová.
