‘No accountability’: Rahul Gandhi slams PM Modi, demands judicial inquiry into CBSE on-screen controversy | Today’s news

Former Congress president and current Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the CBSE hiring a particular company for ‘on-screen marking’ (OSM) of answer scripts despite its questionable record during a similar exercise in Telangana.

The Lok Sabha LoP asked for a judicial inquiry along with the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe what it described as the “whole scam”.

Gandhi questioned how CBSE gave the contract to COEMPT, which was subject to a similar controversy when it was operating under the name Globarena.

“The CBSE examination results have been marred by massive irregularities, leaving millions of students across the country, along with their parents, in a state of shock,” Gandhi said in a post in Hindi on X.

“And Mr. Modi? As always – no answers, no accountability, no shame,” he added, taking aim at the prime minister.

“The name has changed – but the intention is the same, the nature is the same.

Everyone knew the history, yet the contract was awarded. The future of 1.85 million children was handed over to such a company and no one batted an eye,” he said, adding that “this is not a mistake – it is a deliberate conspiracy.”

The former Congress president also raised several questions in this regard:

1. Why was the CBSE contract awarded to COEMPT and at whose behest?

2. Which rules and procedures were omitted when this contract was awarded to the company?

3. COEMPT was already embroiled in controversies under the name Globarena – why didn’t CBSE know about it? Why weren’t background checks done?

4. What exactly is the connection between the COEMPT leadership and the Modi government?

He also had a message for students appearing for the CBSE exams this year: “Comrades CBSE Gen Z – your hard work, your future, no one will be able to steal it from you. We will get to the root of this conspiracy and root out this corruption once and for all.”

Congress attacks ‘Mantri Pradhar’ and ‘Pradhan Mantri’

On Wednesday, the Congress attacked both Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the CBSE OSM system issue. The Grand Old Party stated that “Mantri Pradhan’s insistence” on continuing in his position as well as “Pradhan Mantri’s protection of him is disgraceful”.

In a press conference, Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar attacked the central government over the leakage of NEET as well as CBSE’s OSM system. He claimed that the center was not able to conduct even a single examination properly.

“The responsibility of conducting all important examinations has been handed over to the NTA, which is repeatedly being questioned,” Kumar said.

Kumar also claimed that a background probe of Abhishek Singh, director of the National Testing Agency (NTA), would reveal his political connections and closeness to people in the government.

“By shattering the dreams of the youth of the country, Narendra Modi is selling them the spectacle of a developed India. What is happening in the country may be a comedy for the government, but it is a matter of life and death for the children,” he said.
