State-owned miner National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with IIT Kanpur to strengthen cyber security and advance digital technologies.
The MoU is a step to strengthen industry-academia collaboration and facilitate new cybersecurity initiatives and support the adoption of modern digital technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), across NMDC operations.
Satyendra Rai, Executive Director (Digital Transformation), on behalf of NMDC and Ashoke De, Dean-R&D, IIT Kanpur in the presence of Manindra Agrawal, Director, IIT Kanpur, senior officials from NMDC and representatives from IIT Kanpur signed the MoU.
The NMDC said it will collaborate with the premier institution in key areas such as cyber security risk assessment; policy, governance and compliance support; the integration and advancement of AI and ML; security operations and incident response; capacity building and knowledge sharing; and collaborative research and innovation.
In addition, training programs, research activities, pilot projects and joint development of proof-of-concept solutions will be implemented.
“The collaboration will help strengthen our digital defences, improve operational intelligence and build a secure and future-ready technology foundation for NMDC,” CMD Amitava Mukherjee said in a release.
