NMC approves 175 more MBBS seats in two Govt. colleges in Andhra Pradesh
The good news for students seeking admission in government medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh is that the National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved the admission of 175 MBBS seats in Piduguralla Government Medical College and Siddhartha Medical College, Vijayawada, taking the total number of newly added MBBS seats to 325 during the current year.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Health, Medical and Family Welfare, the NMC has approved the admission of 100 MBBS students to the Government Medical College, Piduguralla from the academic year 2026-2027 and another 75 MBBS seats have been given to the Siddhartha Medical College.
The NMC on Monday issued the relevant letters of permission (LoPs). Earlier, the NMC had approved additional posts in government medical colleges in Kadapa, Nellore and Paderu, taking the number of newly added posts to 325 this year.
The development comes after Health, Medical and Family Welfare Minister Satya Kumar Yadav’s discussions with the NMC, a report said.
A total of 505 new MBBS seats were added during the tenure of the TDP-led NDA government. The health minister said this would benefit economically weaker students and reduce the need for them to seek admission in expensive private medical colleges.
He said many students who had narrowly missed out on government medical posts in their ranks earlier would now have a chance to get admission.
With these additions, the total number of MBBS seats in Andhra Pradesh has increased to 7,090.
