
NLC India Ltd. (NLCIL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Gujarat to develop large-scale renewable energy projects in the state.
According to a press release, the MoU was signed by Devendra Pratap Singh, Executive Director (Projects and Business Development) and CEO, NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL) and Bhakthi Shamal, Joint Secretary, Department of Energy and Petrochemicals, Government of Gujarat in the presence of Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal at a regional conference on Tuesday.
The MoU is non-binding in nature and envisages development of large-scale renewable energy projects in the state, including solar, wind, hybrid and battery power projects, with a total investment potential of around ₹25,000 crore and generation of significant employment opportunities.
The proposed projects will be developed through NIRL, a wholly owned subsidiary of NLCIL. This strategic collaboration is in line with NLCIL’s corporate plan to achieve 10 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and underlines the company’s commitment to sustainable development, energy security and decarbonisation.
Under the MoU, the Government of Gujarat will assist NLCIL/NIRL in obtaining necessary statutory approvals, permits, registrations and other support in accordance with the prevailing policies and regulations of the State Government, enabling time-bound implementation of the proposed projects.
The collaboration further strengthens Gujarat’s position as the country’s leading renewable energy hub and contributes to India’s national goals of achieving net zero emissions and increasing the share of non-fossil fuel electricity generation.
