The Nizamabad Safety Council was officially launched in the district on Friday, which aims to strengthen public safety through coordination between government agencies and private organisations.
Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy, who attended the function at the District Medical College as the chief guest, unveiled the official logo of the Council and administered the oath to Commissioner of Police P. Sai Chaitanya as Chairman, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police G. Baswa Reddy as Convener and Kavith Reddy as General Secretary along with other members.
The council will focus on women and children safety, traffic safety, infrastructure protection and cyber security to transform Nizamabad into a safer city through active involvement of corporate organisations, educational institutions, welfare associations and business communities.
Addressing the gathering, the DGP noted that the Council functions through eight major departments and will play a key role in addressing emerging security challenges.
Mr. Reddy warned of the growing threat of cybercrime, saying criminal activity has shifted from physical markets to the digital space, with the dark web becoming a hub for illegal transactions. He warned that fraudsters were misusing Aadhaar and credit card details and highlighted recent cases of “digital arrest” scams by criminals posing as police officers and urged citizens to remain alert and vigilant.
Later in the day, as part of his district tour, Mr. Reddy inaugurated the newly constructed buildings of Nizamabad Rural Police Station and Makloor Police Station. He said that the Telangana Police continued to lead by example in maintaining law and order and expressed confidence that modern infrastructure would further strengthen crime control and improve public service delivery.
At a road safety awareness program held at the city bypass, the DGP and other dignitaries distributed free helmets to motorists and flagged off a grand cycle rally organized under the Arrive Alive campaign. “Wearing a helmet is not just a rule, it’s a responsibility towards one’s life,” he said as officers, staff and volunteers took part in a helmet-wearing rally to spread awareness.
Government advisors Sudarshan Reddy and Shabbir Ali, MLA Bhupathi Reddy and Paidi Rakesh Reddy, District Collector Ila Tripathi and several senior police officers and public representatives were present at the events.
