India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy produced one of the healthiest moments of the Afghanistan ODI series after he paused the post-match press conference to answer his mother’s phone call after India’s win in the first ODI in Dharamsala.

HOW NITISH REDDY PLAYED IN IND VS AFG 1ST ODI

Nitish again showed his worth to the Indian side with a disciplined spell, finishing with figures of 2 for 31 as Afghanistan struggled to maintain momentum after a strong start.

The visitors were buoyed by a century from Rahmanullah Gurbaz, but the Indian bowlers tightened their grip after his dismissal and prevented Afghanistan from posting a more formidable total. Nitish played an important role during the mid-and death overs, helping India limit the scoring rate at the crucial stages.

India’s chase was largely straightforward. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill got off to a blistering 46-run start before Gill went on the attack. Ishan Kishan’s explosive 34 off 22 balls tilted the contest firmly in India’s favour, while KL Rahul’s unbeaten 39 off 19 deliveries ensured there were no late hiccups.

In the end, India cruised to victory and took an early advantage in the series. It was another productive outing on the field for Nitish, but it was a short call from home that eventually won the Internet over.
