Nitish Reddy knocked Ireland out of the T20Is, which is unlikely even for the England tour

India have been dealt a blow as all-rounder Nitish Reddy has been ruled out of the upcoming white-ball tour of Great Britain due to a quadriceps injury sustained during the recent ODI series against Afghanistan.

Reddy was also expected to fill the void left by Hardik Pandya, who also has quadriceps and is not fit to play 10 overs in ODIs.

“Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the Ireland series. MRI revealed swelling with fiber disruption in the left quadriceps. He has been asked to report to the COE for further assessment,” said a medical bulletin obtained by PTI.

It is understood that Reddy will take a minimum of four weeks – the recovery timeline could also be extended – to complete his rehabilitation before he can begin the Return To Play protocols.

The 23-year-old has played 10 Tests, 6 ODIs and 4 T20Is for India so far. He played two ODIs during the Afghanistan series while missing the second match in Lucknow.

While bowling coach Morne Morkel said at the time that the injury did not look serious, it has now taken a much more serious turn.

Many believe that while Reddy’s stint with independent fast bowling coach Steffan Jones has helped boost his speed from a late 120 km/h to a brisk mid-130 km/h, the flip side is that his body is unable to adapt to the demands of a sudden increase in pace.
