Nitish Reddy joins the wanted list after a horror outing against New Zealand
Nitish Reddy entered the list of unwanted records after an expensive outing with the ball in the fourth T20I against New Zealand in Auckland on Friday, scoring 64 runs to join an unenviable group of Indian bowlers.Reddy’s figures put him alongside Yuzvendra Chahal and Varun Chakravarthy for the second most expensive spell by an Indian bowler in T20I cricket. Krishna tops the list with 68 runs scored against Australia in Guwahati in 2023, while Chahal smashed 64 against South Africa in Centurion in 2018. Chakravarthy also scored 64 against England at the Wankhede in 2026.Reddy’s expensive outing came as New Zealand piled up a mammoth 259/7 after being asked to bat first. The visitors eventually secured an emphatic 87-run victory to reduce India’s series lead to 3-1.The all-rounder was primarily targeted by Glenn Phillips, who crushed him for 32 runs in the 16, including four consecutive sixes. Phillips brought up his half-century in 31 balls before cruising to a 49-ball 107, his third T20I hundred.Reddy eventually dismissed Phillips after the New Zealand batter crossed the three-figure mark, but the damage was already done.Phillips and Michael Bracewell (65 off 25 balls) added 115 runs off just 41 deliveries for the fifth wicket to power New Zealand to their highest T20I total against India. Most runs conceded by India in overs 11-20 in T20Is151 South Africa Guwahati 2022150 New Zealand Auckland 2026146 England Southampton 2026India’s bowling struggles were not limited to Reddy. The visitors scored 151 runs in the middle overs (11-20), the second most by India at this stage of the T20Is.South Africa hold the record with 151 runs in Guwahati in 2022, while New Zealand’s 150 in Auckland took the second spot on the list, followed by England’s 146 in Southampton in 2026.India’s reply never gained momentum as Jacob Duffy struck twice in the opener, removing Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan. The visitors eventually finished on 172/9 and suffered an 87-run defeat.
