The Indian bowling coach, Morne Morkel, believes that Nitish Kumar Reddy has the potential to supply “magic” spells with the ball, but urges the promising versatile to avoid England against England during the upcoming five test series against England.
Reddy, who impressed the century in the Boxing Day test against Australia Last year, MCG currently competes for the role of all-Rounder seams together with Shardul Thakur. While Thakur brings more experience with 11 tests under the belt, Reddy is considered to be a more versatile option in English conditions.
At the beginning of this year with the 21-year-old 26.5 overs in two unofficial tests against the English lions early this year and Morkel has now thrown a challenge for the young man to get out with the ball.
“I think he (Reddy) is skillful. He is a person who can mix the magic ball. So it is about creating this consistency for him, and that’s something we want to work on. It’s important for his game,” Morkel said on the outskirts of Indian training.
“I had interviews with him where I asked him to pass a little more. I want to see the ball more in his hands. We all know what he can do with the bat. But for the team, if you can have these bowling options, especially in these conditions, I think he will be excited and complements his bowling,” he added.
While Morkel refrained to confirm whether Reddy or Thakur would be selected for the Leeds opening test, he emphasized the importance of affecting the correct balance on the side.
“We are very satisfied with the balance. But for us as a bowling unit, finding that the devices we need in the test matches will be important.”
The former South African Pacer also touched Indian preparations for the England and the matches they plan.
“We were talking a lot about how we would go for playing and a match in England. But I think we’re still in the right way to prepare. And for us, like you say when it comes to a day, with the ball, it’s a execution.”
Morkel expressed confidence in the Indian depth of the team, but emphasized the need for readiness and the condition of the match.
“I think we cover all the foundations in terms of this.
“In England, the conditions may suit you and are overcast, but it will still be good surfaces. I think we will test it.”
With a four -day heating accessories against India and on the horizon, Morkel said that the coming days would offer a greater clarity of the preparedness of the pitch.
“So far we have had only three sessions. We have a four -day warm -up game (vs India A), which starts in two days. I will be more interested when our boys walk in that four -day game.”
