The Western Bengal Court condemned nine people on Friday (July 18, 2025) to a lifetime imprisonment for their involvement in the fraud of digital arrest. This is one of the first such beliefs in India and the first in West Bengal.

In this case, 13 people were arrested during the raids carried out by the Cyber Crime Department of the Cyber Crime Department as part of a criminal investigation by West Bengal. Three are from Gujarat, seven of Maharashtra and three of Haryana; Nine of them were convicted.
Calls redirected via Cambodia
It was found that the calls were made from Cambodia and the money was siphone through several accounts whose owners spread throughout the country. Later, however, the police realized that the call was redirected via Cambodia, but the origin was in India.
More bank tickets, ATM cards, SIM cards and mobile phones were confiscated. The police filed 2,600 pages against nine accused. The indictment was submitted to the District Court in Kalyan and the court proceedings were completed in five months.
Officials confirmed that the District Court in Kalyan had sentenced nine convicts to a life prison on Friday.
All 9 accused were convicted according to sections 316 (2) (4)/318 (4)/319 (2)/336 (3)/338/340 (2)/351 (2)/3 (5)/61 (2) of the Indian Code (IPC) and Sections 66C and 66d of the Information Technology Act.
According to a statement shared by the district police Ranaghat on their official description of social media on X, the same gang focused on another senior citizen from Bhadreswar of Bhadreswar West Bengal. This person has lost their entire savings of 41 Laky during digital arrests while his wife fought cancer.
