In one of the city’s biggest drug busts in recent times, the Central Crime Branch’s anti-narcotics unit on Tuesday arrested a 42-year-old Nigerian national and seized 14.84 kg of synthetic drugs, including 11.6 kg of MDMA crystals, 1.04 kg of ecstasy pills, and 2.2 kg of crude chemical used for 2.2 kg of chemicals. crore from him.
According to the police, the accused Ejike Nzegwu is a habitual offender in similar cases. After being released on bail, he continued to sell drugs and procure contraband from his contacts in Delhi, which is under investigation.
Acting on a tip-off, a CCB team raided a house in Bagalur and arrested the accused.
According to the police, the accused came to the city on a business visa in 2017 through Sri Lanka and overstayed. He was arrested by the Bagalur police in 2019 in a narcotics case and was jailed. He got out on bail and was later arrested again by the Konanakunte police in 2020 in another narcotics case.
The accused admitted that he was getting the drugs from his contacts in New Delhi to sell to local dealers on the upcoming New Year’s Eve.
Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh ended the recovery as one of the biggest in the recent past and said the city police had seized drugs worth ₹113 crore this year.
Mr. Singh said legal action would be taken against the owner of the house for violating the rules and not informing the local police while renting out the premises to the accused. He also ordered an inquiry into the local police for not following up on the accused.
