Barcelona reportedly achieved a preliminary signing of Nico Williams, while the Spanish international set committed to a six -year agreement that would keep him in Camp Nou until 2031.
Williams has significantly increased its profile with standout performances for Athletic Club and the Spanish national team and played a key role in their successful Euro 2024 campaign. Which seemed to end the persecution of the Catalan club at that time.
However, new news suggests that this step is now back on the table. Despite the earlier statement of the President of the Club Joan Laporty, which indicates that Barcelona looked at other goals due to financial restrictions, a recent shift in the financial flexibility of the club – including returning to the 1: 1 expenditure – apparently reopen the door.
One of the remaining challenges is the structuring of Williams wages for compliance with the regulations of the lobes of the salary limits. The President of the League Javier Tebas explained that Barcelona must first reduce his wage account before registering new players. Laporta recently teased that the club is close to completing a signature that has advice and fans “enthusiastic” – widely interpreted as a hint of Williams.
“We are going to make a signature that will be immediate, and others whose arrival is very excited. The fact that we are in 1: 1 allows us to normally make signatures and continue in this direction,” Laporta said before the Barcelona Senate.
If the agreement is completed, Williams would add pace, creativity and depth to attack Flick and potentially created one of the most dynamic European partnership with Lamine Yamal.
