The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested the prime accused in a case involving a multi-state illegal trade in arms and ammunition, originating from Bihar and spread across various parts of North India.
The accused has been identified as Kamalkant Verma alias ‘Uncle Ji’ from Patna in Bihar, the 11th person arrested in the case.
Mr. Verma played a vital role in the syndicate and, according to the NIA, was involved in illegally procuring ammunition from various “arms houses” in Haryana and other places. The ammunition was then smuggled into Uttar Pradesh and further supplied to Bihar and other parts of the country.
“Kamalkant’s arrest comes days after searches conducted by the NIA at 23 locations in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Haryana led to the arrest of four more accused, Ravi Ranjan, Shashi Prakash, Vijay Kalra and Kush Kalra. The searches conducted on December 4 also led to the seizure of numerous arms and ammunition,” the agency said.
