NHRC seeks DGP report on ignoring complaint against Harish Rao

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken cognizance of a complaint regarding non-registration of an FIR over public allegations of “black magic” and “occult rituals” against Siddipet MLA and former minister T. Harish Rao. The Commission directed the Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) to submit an action taken report (ATR) within four weeks.

According to Karupothula Revanth’s complaint, no temple records, priest statements, affidavits or other evidence supporting these allegations have yet been released, but there have been repeated public allegations directed at Mr. Harish Rao that he performed tantric or occult rituals in temples to stop the rains and cause drought.

Complaints were lodged at the Osmania University and Vanasthalipuram police stations on 4 August 2026, followed by a representation at the DGP office on 17 August 2026. However, according to the complaint, no FIR was registered and no reasons were given for not registering a case.
