The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has invited bids for the construction of two-lane service roads along the Sira Bypass on NH-48 (old NH-4) in Karnataka, as part of a measure aimed at improving road safety and facilitating the movement of local traffic.
The project, estimated to cost ₹ 22.10 crore, will be executed under Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode. A senior NHAI official said, “It involves construction of service roads for a total balance length of 3.23 km on both sides of the bypass, along with necessary cross drainage structures.
The proposed sections fall between km 117+625 to km 119+900 and km 120+650 to km 121+600 on the Tumkur–Chitradurga section of NH-48, which extends from km 75+000 to km 189+000.
According to NHAI, the initiative is designed to cater to the needs of local commuters while supporting the growing urbanization of Sira. “The addition of service roads is expected to separate local and highway traffic, thereby reducing conflict points with fast-moving vehicles on the main road,” an official said.
The project will be awarded through a tender process. “This initiative reflects NHAI’s continued commitment to enhancing road safety,” said Vilas Brahmankar, Regional Director, NHAI.
