Chairman UT Khader has decided to call a meeting of National Highways and PWD officials to examine the proposal of providing special FASTags to legislators to ensure easy access to toll roads.
The Speaker made this statement following Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s suggestion that legislators and MPs should be given special FASTags to help prevent any identity confusion while entering the toll roads.
The issue was raised by Congress member SN Subba Reddy, who raised the challenge noting that legislators face hardships and embarrassing moments at toll booths to prove their identity, though they have been given free access to use such roads.
His views were supported by members across party lines. Leader of Opposition R. Ashok expressed concern that although the toll booth was supposed to be reserved for the entry of ambulances and those exempted from paying toll as legislators/MPs, most of the booths so reserved remained closed.
The speaker pointed out that there are various standards related to FASTags as they fall under the purview of the Centre. Therefore, a meeting of officials will be called to discuss the issue, he said.
