Russell Wilson has been bounced around the NFL in the last few years, a one -time Super Bowl winner suddenly without a consistent house while faced doubts and critics about his game.
The 36 -year -old Quarterback is now officially at his last stop after signed his annual contract with New York Giants on Wednesday, the day after he agreed to the subject of the agreement with his third team in so many years and fourth in five years.
But with the giants, Wilson has its sights for one thing.
“I expect to be a starter and I will be able to come here and swing and roll every day,” Wilson said during the center at the zoom. “I think this team is really looking for someone to lead them in all directions – in terms of process, offseason, during the season, our habits and our thought process, and how we create a great winning culture.”
“How do we continue to set this and really build on things we do well and on things that we still have to do?”
The person with knowledge of the contract said the Associated Press that it was worth up to $ 21 million with $ 10.5 million. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the team did not announce the financial conditions.
Wilson joined the Quarterback room, which includes veteran Jameis Winston, who signed a two -year contract last week, and Tommy Devito, an exclusive agent without rights that was re -signed on March 8. New York also has a total selection of 3 in the NFL proposal next month and could still focus on Quarterback.
“A large part of professional sports is a constant change, constant movement,” Wilson said. “If we design a Quarterback, we make sure it does everything he can to be ready to go and be ready with his mentality.”
“But for me I focus on victory – what can I do as a Quarterback New York Giants to help us win and do everything we can to lead?”
Wilson, a tenfold selection for Bowl, helped Pittsburgh to perform playoffs last season and threw at 2,482 yards with 16 touch passages and five wiretaps and 96.5 16.5 rating. But Steelers lost five in a row at the end of the season after 6-1 started with him.
Steelers allowed the Wilson to become a free agent, as with Justin Fields – who signed the Jets. Although there was a chance that Wilson could return in Pittsburgh, Steelers also met Aaron Rodgers last week – who remains the opportunity to sign there if he wants to play 21.
Meanwhile, Wilson met the giants and felt it was right.
“First, Aaron Rodgers is a huge footballer,” Wilson said. “In this league he did some wonderful things. I was lucky to have been able to do some great things too.
“Also on the way is to find a place that will continue to believe in you.”
Wilson called Pittsburgh a “special, special place” for him and appreciated his former Steelers teammates, including TJ Watt and Cam Heyward.
“But coming here and being in New York is an exciting place to play,” Wilson said. “It’s a place he wants to win and knows how to win is and won before. For me it brings everything I know, all the experiences and landing, all the victories, as well as all the love and passion for the dressing room. I’m really excited.”
“It will be strange, strange thing and we have to work every day and go to do it.”
Wilson spent part of his night across the Hudson River in Madison Square Garden, watching the New York Knicks lost with Los Angeles Clippers. Wilson, sitting next to actor Matthew Modine, was shown on the video board, signed football and then threw it into the racks of fans.
Wilson played two unsatisfactory seasons in Denver after 10 years in Seattle, which helped win Super Bowl in February 2014 at the MetLife stadium – Wilson’s new home stadium.
“I have amazing memories,” he said. “Some of my most amazing memories of this game, which I poured my heart and soul for every day, happened here at this stadium directly across the street at Metlife.
Wilson mentioned at least a dozen of his new teammates Giants during his 20 -minute chat with reporters. Among those players were the young wide receiver Malik Nabers, who spoke to Wilson before signing the Quarterback.
“The guy, when he touches the ball, can score every time,” Wilson said, adding that the Nabers was “Mad athlete.”
He also appreciated the defense coach Brian Daboll and said, “He was around size and knows what it looks like and sounds,” and at the same time pointed out his five Rings Super Bowl as an assistant.
“What I really like about Dabs is just his mentality, his offensive mentality,” Wilson said. “We haven’t been able to speak a lot of ball yet, but over the years I have been able to see a lot and understand who it is.”
“I think this is the exciting part of what we can do, and all the guys we have around us.”
