Neymar’s son mistaken for pitch intruder, Brazil star steps in to clear up confusion

Brazil’s commanding 3-0 win over Scotland at the Miami Stadium ended in an emotional scene off the ball as a tearful Neymar had to personally intervene when stadium stewards mistook his own son for a striker on the pitch.

The touching moment took place shortly after the final whistle FIFA World Cup Group C match. For Neymar, the evening was already packed with immense personal meaning, marking his official return to the Selecao for the first time since suffering a devastating anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in October 2023.

After celebrating the key victory on the pitch with his teammates, the 34-year-old superstar walked to one of the stadium’s enclosures, where his 14-year-old son Davi Lucca cheered him on. Davi saw his father approaching the sideline and eagerly tried to get down from the stands to greet him.

However, when they saw a young fan attempting to cross the boundary and trespass onto the pitch, two alert stadium security guards immediately detained the teenager. The rangers mistook him for an overzealous striker on the pitch and stopped him to prevent him from getting onto the grass.

Realizing the immediate misunderstanding, Neymar quickly stepped in to clear up the confusion. The Brazilian striker frantically signaled to the stewards, who immediately retreated once they realized the boy’s identity.

What followed was a deeply emotional hug between father and son on the sidelines. Neymar, visibly overwhelmed by the gravity of his long, grueling 20-month journey back to the international stage, broke down in tears during a warm hug to cap off a night that clearly meant a lot more to him than just three points.

Lucca is the son of Neymar’s ex-partner, Brazilian digital artist Carolina Darias.

A touching family reunion provided the perfect addition to a highly successful night for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, who comfortably sealed their World Cup qualification for the round of 32 as group winners.

BRAZIL CRUISE IN MIAMI

The match itself was a masterclass in clinical finishing from the South American giants, who never looked in danger of slipping up against the Scots. Real Madrid winger Vincius Jnior produced an explosive display, taking advantage of Scotland’s defensive mix-up to open the scoring in the 7th minute before doubling the lead with a powerful header in first-half stoppage time. Striker Matheus Cunha put the game completely out of Scotland’s reach with a clinical finish on the hour mark.

To the absolute delight of the Miami crowd, Neymar made his official tournament debut in the 75th minutewho will replace Cunha in a much-anticipated 15-minute cameo to test his match fitness after recently recovering from a late calf problem.

With maximum points from the group stage, Brazil now advance to the knockout stages in Houston, buoyed by both a clicking frontline and a fully fit, emotionally charged talisman who proved he can still pull off a flawless save on and off the pitch.
