The UConn women’s basketball team is gearing up for March Madness in style, debuting a brand-new jersey as they begin their tournament journey on Saturday. The Huskies unveiled their fresh look in a polished announcement video shared on their X account on Tuesday.
The video featured several team members, but star guard Paige Bueckers took center stage, delivering an emotional speech that hinted at her impending departure from the program.
“I can’t believe my time here at UConn is coming to an end,” Bueckers said. “It’s been everything I ever dreamed of as a kid. I wanted to come here and wear this jersey with pride, and it’s been an amazing journey. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I just can’t believe I am never going to wear this jersey again.
“But that’s because we have some exciting things coming soon.”
Following her heartfelt words, Bueckers appeared in the next scene showcasing the newly designed UConn jersey with confidence and flair. Other players also modeled the updated uniforms throughout the video, which was set to a hip-hop soundtrack.
UConn has enjoyed a dominant season, finishing the Big East regular season undefeated (18-0) and claiming the conference title. The team also secured its 12th consecutive Big East Tournament championship with a decisive 72-50 victory over Creighton in the final.
UConn secures No. 2 seed for NCAA Tournament
On Selection Day, the Huskies were awarded a No. 2 seed in the Spokane 4 Region for March Madness. This marks the seventh time UConn has received a No. 2 seed, further extending its streak of NCAA Tournament appearances, which dates back to the 1988-89 season.
With 11 national titles and 23 Final Four appearances since 1988-89, UConn is the most successful women’s college basketball program in history. The Huskies are set to open their tournament campaign against No. 15-seed Arkansas on Saturday afternoon at Gampel Pavilion, with tipoff scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on ABC.
Riding a 10-game winning streak, UConn is widely regarded as a formidable contender capable of challenging defending national champion South Carolina.
