Hundreds of people witnessed the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected councilors of Kozhikode Corporation on Sunday (December 21). District Collector Snehil Kumar Singh administered the oath to Congress councilor Manakkal Sasi, the senior-most member of the council. Mr Sasi later swore in the remaining 75 councillors.
While most councilors chose to take a simple oath, some chose to swear in the name of their favorite gods. Paroppady councilor Hareesh Pottangadi drew attention to taking the oath in Sanskrit. The councilors signed the register of the company and received the bouquets from the company secretary of KU Bini. They were called to take the oath in the order of their divisions.

The LDF has 35 seats in the 76-member council, while the UDF has 28 seats and the BJP has 13 seats. Family members, party workers and leaders came in large numbers to support the new councillors. The event was held at Mohammed Abdurahiman Sahib Jubilee Hall in Tali.
MK Raghavan, MP, MLAs Ahammad Devarkovil and MK Muneer, Bharatiya Janata Party district president KP Prakash Babu, district congress president K. Praveen Kumar, Communist Party of India (Marxist) district secretary M. Mehaboob, former deputy mayor CP Musafar Ahamed and Communist Party of India district secretary Gavanit were present P.
The first meeting of the council of elected members was held later in the day in the council chamber at the Kozhikode Corporation office, presided over by Manakkal Sasi. The secretary read the announcement of the government about the election of the mayor and deputy mayor, which are to be held on December 26 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Meanwhile, the swearing-in of members of Kozhikode district panchayat, block panchayats and grama panchayats in the district was also held on Sunday. The district collector administered the oath to KP Mohamedans, a UDF member from Chelannur division, who in turn administered the oath to the other members. The UDF has 14 members in the 28-member panchayat board, while the LDF has 13 members and the RMP has one member.
