Newcastle United Chairman Insists on Retaining Alexander Isak This Summer
Newcastle United chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan has reportedly directed the club to hold onto star striker Alexander Isak during the upcoming transfer window. Isak, who has continued his impressive form from the 2023/24 season, played a pivotal role in Newcastle ending their 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy last weekend.
Al-Rumayyan, the primary representative of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) on Newcastle’s board, was present at Wembley Stadium to witness the historic victory in person. According to The Daily Mail, the chairman has a strong attachment to Isak, one of the first major signings made under Saudi ownership following the 2022 takeover.
The report claims that Al-Rumayyan is "adamant" about retaining Isak and has instructed the club’s sporting hierarchy to reject any lucrative offers for the Swedish forward. Notably, there is no minimum asking price set for Isak, as Al-Rumayyan and PIF are firmly against selling him.
Isak has recently been linked with moves to Arsenal and Liverpool, both of whom are in the market for a new striker. Arsenal have reportedly identified him as their top transfer target over alternatives like Benjamin Šeško and Samu Omorodion. Meanwhile, Liverpool, seeking a more consistent upgrade for Darwin Núñez, have reportedly initiated contact with members of Isak’s camp.
Barcelona has also been rumored to show interest in Isak, with scouts reportedly present at Newcastle’s recent win over West Ham United. However, Spanish reports suggest that the Catalan club has all but abandoned hopes of signing him due to the potential costs involved.
