Bella James Excluded from New Zealand’s ODI Squad Against Sri Lanka Due to Injury; Replacement Announced
New Zealand Women’s all-rounder Bella James has been excluded from the ODI squad to face Sri Lanka in the upcoming series, which starts on March 29th. The 24-year-old fast-medium bowler has been struggling with an injury and was not fit enough to be included in the 15-member squad announced by New Zealand Cricket (NZC) on Tuesday.
James, who has 24 ODI appearances under her belt, is one of the most experienced players in the current squad. Her absence is a significant blow to the team, which is already facing a tough challenge against the Sri Lankan side.
However, the NZC has announced that Maitlan Moore, a 22-year-old pace bowler from the Northern Districts, has been called up to replace James in the squad. Moore has been impressive in the domestic league, taking 15 wickets in her last four matches at an average of 14.53. She is expected to bring much-needed pace and aggression to the team.
Moore is likely to pair up with Sophie Devine, Amelia Kerr, and Lea Tahuhu to form a strong bowling attack, which is crucial in the ODI format. With James’ experience and guile, the team will miss her services, but Moore’s selection brings a fresh perspective to the squad.
The three-match ODI series between New Zealand and Sri Lanka will be played from March 29th to April 4th. The teams are expected to provide an exciting contest, with both sides possessing some of the best players in the world.
The ODI squad is as follows:
- Sophie Devine (c)
- Amy Satterthwaite (vc)
- Suzie Bates
- Katey Martin
- Maddy Green
- Amelia Kerr
- Lea Tahuhu
- Lauren Burgess
- Hannah Darlington
- Rachel Candy
- Jess Kerr
- Maitlan Moore
- C Gaykoff
- Bernadette Kopaly
- Aleina Maxton
While James’ injury is a concern, the New Zealand team is well-prepared to face the Sri Lankans, and with Moore’s inclusion, they will look to bounce back from their recent losses against Australia. The squad will be hoping to secure a series win at home and prove themselves as one of the top teams in women’s cricket.
