New Zealand’s captain Sophie Devine will announce his retirement from ODI after this year ICC Women’s Cup, New Zealand cricket confirmed on Tuesday, June 17th. The 35-year-old, which has been the cornerstone of white ferns for almost two decades, will go to the occasional agreement on the 2025-26 season.
Devine’s ODI career, which began in 2006, when she was only 17 years old, was nothing remarkable. From the beginning, as dough 11 has turned into one of the worst players in the format. With 152 ODI performances – the second only for Suzie Bates – Devine, she accumulated 3,990 runs, of which eight centuries and the 16th 1950s, and placed her fourth on the List of New Zealand lists ODI. It is ready to overcome a milestone of 4,000 running and move to third place by the end of the tournament.
With the ball, she claimed 107 goals, which were just behind the Lea Tahuh among the women of New Zealand in ODIS. Her versatile prowess and leadership defined the era of white fern.
Devine, the appointed permanent captain in 2020, led New Zealand during the transition period culminating in their triumph at the ICC T20 World Championship last year. However, the success in the 50 Over format was elusive, with the team in the last two world cups has progressed around group stages.
When Devine thought about her decision, she said, “It’s like the right time to start resigning. I feel very happy to have NZC support in finding a solution that means I can give white fern. It is important that I know that I concentrated and determined to give this group everything I can than I resigned.
Liz Green, the head of the high performance of the NZC, acknowledged Devine’s immense contribution and the opportunities to create her decision.
“Sophie has given nearly 20 years of The White Ferns and NZC fully supports her efforts to find a greater balance at this stage of her career,” Green said. “We are pleased that we can achieve an agreement, which means that it can continue to be involved with white ferns with a case -by -case case while opening up the opportunity for another player to be in full.”
White ferns will start the World Cup campaign ODI of Women 1. October against Australia in Indore.
