Tom Phillips, the father of New Zealand, who was on the run with his three children for nearly four years, was deadly shot by the police during an attempt to break in Piopio, the Guardian said on Monday.
Phillips lived in a hiding place on the distant wilderness of Waikato since the end of 2021, after he fled his children, Embera (now 9), Maverick (10) and Jayda (12) – before Christmas, he twisted after a dispute with their mother, Guardian reported.
The family escaped captivity for almost four years, despite several observations, including CCTV, which apparently shows Phillips and a child who broke into the store last month, AFP informed.
In the early morning hours of Monday morning, the police were called about a potential robbery in the store by two people on a quad.
“The well -known information we had previously saw Tom Phillips in this area was called to other employees and responded to this place,” said Deputy Police Commissioner New Zealand in the northern districts of Jill Rogers.
Police stopped the quads of the tips, then the shooting broke out. “The second patrol unit arrived and involved the perpetrators and died on the scene,” Rogers said.
Statement of the extradition of children
The child’s mother issued a statement on Radio New Zealand on Monday, saying that she was “deeply relieved” that “suffering” for her children ended.
“They lacked very much every day for almost four years and we look forward to welcome them home with love and care,” said the woman, who was identified in New Zealand intelligence centers only by her first name Cat, as stated.
